Paula Starling

Born in North Dakota, Paula has spent most of her life in Wilmington, NC.  After graduating from John T. Hoggard High School she attended UNCW and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a K-6 NC Teaching Licensure from UNCW.  Paula knew she wanted to work with either senior citizens or children.  She spent the first ten years of her career working for the Home Delivered Meals program for New Hanover County and became the coordinator for Meals on Wheels. After working for a year in the New Hanover County School system, she heard about a Kindergarten teaching position at Myrtle Grove Christian School.  Paula has spent the last twenty years there, teaching in Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade. During her last five years, she served as the school librarian.  Paula has been trained in the Charlotte Mason, Classical and Experiential methods of learning instruction. While at Myrtle Grove, she was the recipient of the 2022 Barbara Nail Excellence in Education Award and hosted many successful book fairs.

Paula has been married to her husband Jeffrey for 34 glorious years!  Their daughter Abbey is a teacher at New Hanover High School here in Wilmington, and their son Sam is an engineer with Hoffman and Hoffman, also in Wilmington. Paula, Jeffrey, and their children, along with their spouses, love to travel together and camp together in their pop-up whenever they get the chance.  Paula enjoys singing in the praise team at her church, cooking, reading, hiking, crafting, and learning how to use her Cricut machine.
