Born and raised in Pender County, Joy Mason is a proud graduate of Topsail High School. She began her educational journey by earning an associate's degree in Finance, which led to positions with several local mortgage companies and financial institutions. Later, her passion for working with children inspired her to return to Cape Fear Community College, where she earned a second associate degree in Early Childhood Education.
After starting a family, Joy chose to stay home with her children. During that time, she was offered a position at her daughter’s preschool and at her church. It was there that Joy discovered her love for teaching and her true passion for art. This calling led her to accept a position as the art teacher at Scotts Hill Christian Academy, where she has now served faithfully for over 21 years.
Joy loves teaching and sharing her passion for art with others, especially children. She finds great joy in helping students see the world through a creative lens and encouraging them to use their gifts to glorify God. She often shares with her students that God is the greatest artist of all—the Creator of every color, texture, and living thing—and she delights in pointing out His beauty throughout creation. Through art, Joy helps others recognize the wonder of God's design in the world around them. Alongside her teaching career, Joy has also launched her own design company where she shares her artwork, custom designs, and passion for creativity with others.
Joy has been married to her husband, Jerry Mason, for 29 years. Together, they have three wonderful children: Shelby, Gabrielle, and Briley. Her oldest, Shelby, is a Solutions Engineer for a local software design company and was recently married, giving Joy the gift of a new son-in-law. Gabrielle works as a preschool teacher and nanny, and her youngest, Briley, is a high school student active in both football and baseball.
The Mason family shares a love for Disney and enjoys making memories at the parks together. Joy especially loves long walks on the beach and cherishes quiet time with the Lord. She has been a devoted member of Scotts Hill Baptist Church for over 30 years, serving in various ministries including the choir, Sunday School teaching, and youth leadership.
