A Wilmington native, Angela grew up in Castle Hayne and attended New Hanover County schools. As the area grew, she found herself longing for a quieter place to call home. Today, she lives in Pender County, surrounded by her family.
Angela earned her Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Cape Fear Community College before continuing her education at UNCW, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education (K–6) with a concentration in Music. She graduated in 1998 and began teaching fifth grade at Malpass Corner Elementary that same year. Her 33-year career at Malpass Corner began in 1993 as a bus driver. In 1995, while still attending college, she became a floating teacher assistant before moving into the classroom. Throughout her career, she has taught grades 2–5, earned her AIG certification, and later completed a Master's degree in Elementary Education from Gardner-Webb University.
During her time at Malpass Corner, Angela has served as a grade-level chair, participated on numerous school committees, attended state conferences in mathematics and technology, led professional development for fellow teachers, mentored beginning educators, and written several successful grants. Her favorite role, however, has been serving as head coach of the Science Olympiad team for the past 12 years—she loves the excitement of competition and watching students discover what they're capable of.
Angela entered the teaching profession because God led her there after she realized nursing was not the path He had planned for her. Through prayer, she found her calling in education. Over the past 33 years, she has built countless lifelong relationships with students and families and has been deeply blessed by the community she has served. She now believes God is calling her to serve beyond that community in a place where she can freely share His love, plant seeds of faith, and help shape young hearts and minds through a Christ-centered education.
Angela and her husband, Travis, have been married for 44 years. They have two children, four grandchildren, and one precious great-grandchild. She treasures time with her family, enjoys relaxing on the beach with a good book, camping with her brother, crocheting blankets, and playing the piano.
