Alex Schaivone

Born and raised here in Wilmington, Alex is proud to consider herself a lifelong Wilmingtonian. Her family has called Southeastern North Carolina home for decades, and she has called Northside her church home for most of her life. 

As a self-proclaimed "teacher's kid," Alex knew from a very young age that she wanted to pursue a career in education after high school. While attending UNC Wilmington, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in English and Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary English Education. After graduate school, she spent the next six years teaching high school in New Hanover County. While working at the high school level, Alex taught Honors and AP English, and loved molding her students into avid readers and critical thinkers.  It was during this time that she truly developed a passion for helping students realize their potential and cultivate a love of learning. She loves challenging students to grow both personally and academically and is passionate about bringing real-world experiences into the classroom as often as possible. 

Alex has been married to her husband, Nick, for ten years, and together, they have two amazing, energetic boys, Franklin and Oliver. After spending a few years at home with her boys while working part-time, Alex is excited to be back in the classroom where her heart for teaching and passion for education belong. When she isn't busy chasing around her kiddos, Alex loves traveling, curling up with a good book, and spending time with her family and friends. She couldn't be more thrilled to join the NSCL family!
